In this Prema, the input is surrender of the Self and the output is God Himself. Man gives in to his limited capacity and Guru gives in return to His Infinite and Unlimited capacity.

One cannot even imagine the Divine Reward for such
total surrender. A Sikh, out of total love and devotion, offers himself at the holy feet
of the Beloved Satguru. In return the Great Guru gives Himself away unto such a true
Lover. That is what Prema means in this Great Religion of Love. Devotion, love and Prema
of a finite and mortal begets the Infinite Love and God in return. In this Prema, the
input is surrender of the Self and the output is God Himself. Man gives in to his limited
capacity and Guru gives in return to His Infinite and Unlimited capacity.

Eligibility is determined on the basis of total surrender and total sacrifice for the
Divine.
True understanding of the above hymn supplies key to the answer.
The Five Beloved Ones truely acted in accordance
with the Divine Will and Call. They rose one after the other in compliance with the Divine
Commandment. A true sikh, a true lover remains at the beck and call of the Divine Satguru
and acts as He bids him to do.
This unique powerful stroke became the most powerful shaping factor in the regeneration
of a whole culture and in the emergence of a new Nation. It was a Mighty Stroke of the
Divine which deeply touched and moved every heart and has left a most powerful and
perpetual spiritual legacy.
In True Love, True Devotion, True Bhagti, True Saranagti one gives oneself away unto
the Beloved. A True Lover sacrifices everything for the Beloved without seeking any return
thereof. Fake, selfish, pretended love for the Divine is neither true Bhakti nor true
Saranagti. False and pretended show of love amounts to spiritual death.
The Great Guru demanded a head. Only five in a mammoth congregation of thousands rose
and offered their heads in loving devotion to their Lord of Love, in total subjection of
their will to the Divine Purpose (Hukam Maniey Paaiey).
In obedience to the Holy Command of the Guru, they gave themselves away in Loving and
Devoted Service to Him. In return of this human offer which is, perforce, limited to human
capacity, Guru gives Himself away unto these five Beloved ones. He gives to them to His
unlimited, boundless capacity and elevates them to the chosen Five Immortals of the Order
of the Khalsa and that also for Eternity.
